Can Nurses provide psychotherapy? YES! Registered Nurse Psychotherapist: A Registered Nurse Psychotherapist is a licensed nurse (RN) with advanced training in psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). They bring a holistic, person-centered approach, combining nursing expertise in physical and mental health with specialized counseling skills. They can perform psychotherapy independently, assess mental health conditions, and sometimes coordinate with medical professionals for medication management. Their nursing background offers a unique lens, integrating mind, body, and emotional wellness. The regulatory body for nurses, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is one of only 6 regulatory colleges who's members are permitted to provide the controlled act of psychotherapy. In addition to my Registered Nurse (RN) license, I have also completed additional training to qualify as a Certified Nurse Psychotherapist (CPN/CNP).
Do you offer virtual therapy sessions? Yes, we provide secure telehealth sessions via video calls, allowing you to access therapy from the comfort of your home. Recordings, if made, are encrypted and protected to ensure your privacy.
How long does therapy take? The duration of therapy depends on your unique needs and goals. Some clients find short-term support (6-12 sessions) helpful, while others benefit from longer-term therapy. We’ll work together to find the right pace for you.
Can a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist Make Referrals? Yes, at Mindful Odyssey, our Registered Nurse Psychotherapists can make referrals to other healthcare professionals, such as psychiatrists, family doctors, or specialists, to ensure you receive comprehensive care. With their unique blend of nursing and psychotherapy expertise, they assess your mental and physical health needs and coordinate with medical teams when necessary, such as for medication management or additional support. This holistic approach helps tailor your treatment plan to your unique journey.
